Athlete Focus | Kevin Moore, Brighton & Hove AC
Brighton & Hove AC is one of the UK clubs who raises funds for club equipment through our club affiliate programme. Here they are showcasing one of their international athletes Kevin Moore, who is coached by leading Sussex coach and former athlete Allison Benton in the AB Running Group.
I’m Kevin Moore and I have been running with Brighton and Hove Athletics Club for 3.5 years now.
I was born in Tipperary (Ireland). Not long after moving over here I bumped into James Turner and Howard Bristow at Sussex League XC at Goodwood. I ran the race as a guest, not knowing anyone. I managed to split James and Howard in the race and afterwards they quizzed me and quickly got me into the AB Training group and from there I joined Brighton and Hove AC.
What is the benefit of training with an athletics club?
AB Training Group is an incredible collection of runners for lots of different clubs in Sussex being coached by the impressive Allison Benton. The group ethos of working and training together has pushed all of us to levels that most of us never even dreamed of!
How do you fit athletics training around work?
I work as a Civil Engineer and Site Manager for a Civil and Mechanical Engineering company (Ward and Burke) with mainly work for Southern Water and Thames Water building new infrastructure for them to meet the every growing population levels and environmental standards. Typically have a very busy week from Monday to Friday with work and training. Working typical 50-60 hour weeks based on site. Currently I’m working on a project in Redhill for Thames Water.

Usually every second week I squeeze in sports massage from Emily Proto (Proto Massage) or some Fascial Stretching with Anita Jones (Body Hub Brighton). I tend to get injured if I don’t keep on top of the maintenance with Emily and Anita.

Favourite Athletics Achievements
- Winning the 2020 Brighton Half Marathon (one of the last races before Lockdown!)
- Being part of the first ever Sussex team to win Bronze at the UK inter counties XC 2020 (the last race before lockdown!)
- Setting a course record at the 2019 Kings Head Canter (first person to ever run sub 15 on the course).
